Safety tips for buying and selling phones

For buyers

• Meet the seller in a busy public place like a mall or a mobile market, during the day.
• Check the IMEI by dialing *#06# and confirm it matches the box. Check PTA status by sending the IMEI to 8484 or on dirbs.pta.gov.pk.
• Test the screen, cameras, speakers, charging port, fingerprint/Face ID and battery health before paying.
• Make sure iCloud or Google account is signed out so the phone is not locked to someone else.
• Never pay in advance through JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank transfer for a phone you have not seen.
• Ask for the original box and purchase receipt where possible.

For sellers

• Back up and factory reset your phone, and sign out of iCloud/Google before handing it over.
• Do not accept cheques or "payment screenshots". Confirm money has arrived in your account.
• Bring a friend when meeting buyers.
