How to choose
- Budget matters most? The Flip 8 is the cheapest new foldable from a big brand. A used Flip from an earlier year costs even less.
- Want a mini tablet? The Fold 8 or the iPhone Duo.
- Use an iPhone today? The iPhone Duo keeps your apps, iMessage and photos.
- Plan to sell it in a year or two? iPhones and Samsung Fold models have the most buyers on the used market. See which phones hold their value.
Three things every foldable buyer should know
1. Repairs are expensive. An inner screen can cost a big share of the phone's price to replace. Consider a good case and be careful with sand and sharp objects.
2. PTA status matters more on expensive phones, because the tax on an imported foldable is very high.
3. Check the fold carefully on a used one, open and close it many times, and look for lines or bubbles.
