How to Sell a Non-PTA Phone in Pakistan: Honest Pricing and Tips

18 Jun 2026 · 3 min read

Yes, you can sell a non-PTA phone in Pakistan, and many people do. Non-PTA phones, also called factory unlocked or not registered, still have buyers. You just need to price them honestly and explain clearly what the buyer is getting.

What non-PTA means for a buyer

A phone that is not PTA approved will stop working with Pakistani SIM cards after a short time, unless the PTA tax is paid and the phone is registered. So a buyer of a non-PTA phone usually plans to:

  • Use it on Wi-Fi only, as an iPod-style device, for gaming or for a child
  • Pay the PTA tax themselves and register it
  • Use it abroad, or give it to someone who lives abroad

Our guide on PTA approved vs non-PTA phones explains the difference in more detail.

How to price a non-PTA phone

The price gap between PTA and non-PTA versions of the same phone is roughly the PTA tax, and on expensive phones like iPhones that tax is large. To price yours:

1. Look at live ads for the same model that are clearly marked non-PTA.
2. Compare them with the PTA-approved price.
3. Price yours near other non-PTA phones in the same condition.

For a rough idea of how much the tax is, read PTA tax on mobile phones and check the current rate on DIRBS. Tax rates change, so always confirm before you quote a buyer.

Is it worth paying the PTA tax before selling?

Sometimes. If the phone is a recent, expensive model, a PTA-approved version can sell much faster and to a much larger group of buyers. But you rarely get back more than the tax you paid. Paying tax only to resell usually makes sense if:

  • The phone is new or almost new
  • It is a popular model with strong demand
  • You have time to wait for the right buyer

For older or cheaper phones, selling as non-PTA is usually the better choice.

Be completely honest in your ad

Mark the phone as Factory Unlocked or Non-PTA when you post. Write it in the description too, for example: "Non-PTA, works on Wi-Fi. SIM will stop working after the grace period unless PTA tax is paid." Honesty saves you from angry buyers and wasted trips.

What else to mention

  • Whether it has ever been used with a Pakistani SIM, and for how long
  • Whether it is a single or dual SIM model
  • Battery health, condition and box contents
  • Whether it is an official international model or a carrier model from abroad

Who buys non-PTA phones fastest

Gamers, students who only need Wi-Fi, parents buying a device for children, and people travelling abroad. Mention these uses in your ad, for example "great for gaming on Wi-Fi", to attract the right buyers.
