Meeting a Buyer or Seller Safely: Tips for Handing Over a Phone
04 Oct 2026 · 2 min read
Most phone deals in Pakistan end with a face-to-face meeting. A few simple rules keep both the buyer and the seller safe.
Choose the right place
- A busy public place: a shopping mall, a mobile market like Hafeez Centre or Saddar, or outside a bank.
- Meet in daylight, not late at night.
- Avoid empty streets, parking areas and private homes.
- Bring a friend or family member if you can.
Before you go
- Talk on a call, not just text. A real buyer or seller will happily speak.
- Agree on the price and the meeting place in advance.
- Tell someone at home where you are going.
For buyers: check before you pay
- Dial *#06# and match the IMEI with the box.
- Send the IMEI to 8484 to check PTA status.
- Test the screen, cameras, speakers, mic, charging port, Face ID or fingerprint, and the SIM.
- Make sure iCloud or the Google account is signed out, so the phone is not locked.
For sellers: check before you hand over
- Confirm the payment in your own bank or wallet app. Do not trust screenshots or SMS messages.
- Count cash carefully.
- Give the phone only after the payment is complete.
Warning signs
- The other person asks for an advance payment or a "token" before meeting.
- They push you to meet somewhere quiet or change the place at the last minute.
- The price is far too good to be true.
- They ask for your OTP code or password. VerifiedPhones will never ask for these.
If anything feels wrong, walk away. There will always be another phone and another buyer.
Safe spots in the big cities
When you can, pick somewhere with cameras and other people around:
- Karachi: a mall food court in Clifton, Dolmen Mall, or a bank branch in Gulshan or DHA.
- Lahore: a food court in Packages Mall or Fortress Square, or a branch along MM Alam Road.
- Islamabad / Rawalpindi: Centaurus Mall, Giga Mall, or Saddar's busy market hours.
- Other cities: a bank branch, a well-known mall, or a busy market during daylight is almost always safer than a quiet street or someone's home.
See where to find buyers in your city too.
