Selling a Phone Without the Box or Charger: Does It Lower the Price?

Many people lose the box or use the charger with another phone. You can still sell the phone. Just know how it affects the price and how to reassure buyers.

Why buyers care about the box

In Pakistan, the box matters for two reasons:

1. Proof the phone is genuine and not stolen. The IMEI on the box should match the phone. Buyers see this as a sign the phone was bought legally.
2. Resale later. The buyer knows they will get more when they sell it on if the box is included.

That is why phones without a box often sell for a bit less, especially iPhones and Samsung flagships.

How much less?

It depends on the phone. On budget phones the difference is small. On expensive phones it can be a few thousand rupees or more. Compare live ads for your model with and without box to see the gap.

How to reassure buyers without a box

• Show the IMEI matches PTA records. Send the IMEI to 8484 and show the result. See how to check PTA status.
• Keep any receipt or warranty card. A shop receipt with the IMEI is even better than a box.
• Show your purchase history. For iPhones, Apple's website can show the purchase date and warranty for a serial number.
• Do a health test. A free health test shows the phone works properly.
• Be open about why. "Box lost when I moved house" is fine. Buyers just want an honest answer.

What about the charger?

New phones increasingly come without a charger in the box, so many buyers do not expect one. If your phone came with a fast charger and you still have it, include it, because it adds value. If you do not have it, say "no charger" clearly so the buyer is not surprised.

Can you get a replacement box?

You can buy empty boxes in some markets, but do not pass a box from another phone off as the original. The IMEI will not match, and buyers who check will think you are hiding something. It is better to sell honestly without a box.

Write it clearly

In your ad, write something like "No box, only phone and cable. PTA approved, IMEI checks out." That saves time and attracts buyers who do not mind.
