Safe Payment When Selling Your Phone: Cash, Bank Transfer, JazzCash and Easypaisa

22 Jul 2026 · 3 min read

The most dangerous moment in a phone sale is the payment. Most scams happen right here. Follow these rules and you will not lose your phone or your money.

The golden rule

Never hand over the phone until the money is actually yours. Not a promise, not a screenshot, not "it will come in five minutes". Money in your hand or in your account, then the phone.

Cash

Cash is the simplest for most phone sales.

  • Count it in front of the buyer.
  • Check notes for fakes, especially Rs 5,000 notes. Look for the watermark, the security thread and the colour-changing ink.
  • For large amounts, meet at a bank. You can deposit the cash straight away, and the bank's machines check the notes.

Bank transfer and Raast

Bank transfers and Raast are instant in most cases and safe, if you check properly.

  • Open your own banking app and check that the money has arrived in your balance.
  • Do not trust an SMS that looks like a bank message. Scammers send fake SMS alerts. Check the app itself.
  • Do not trust a screenshot the buyer shows you. Screenshots are easy to fake.

JazzCash and Easypaisa

These work like bank transfers.

  • Check your own app for the received amount and the new balance.
  • Ignore SMS that claim to be from JazzCash or Easypaisa but come from a normal mobile number.
  • Never share your PIN or OTP code with anyone, even if they say they sent money "by mistake" and need it back.

The fake screenshot scam

This is the most common trick. The buyer shows a screenshot or an SMS saying the money was sent, takes the phone and leaves. The money never arrives. Always check your own app, no matter how real the screenshot looks.

The "sent too much" scam

A buyer claims they sent more than the price by mistake and asks you to return the extra. In fact, nothing was sent, or the transfer was reversed. Always check your real balance first.

Cheques

Avoid cheques for phone sales. A cheque can bounce days after the buyer has left with your phone.

Advance payment and courier

Be careful with buyers in other cities who want you to courier the phone. If you do it, only send after full payment has cleared in your account. Never accept "cash on delivery" arrangements organised by the buyer. See selling across Pakistan.

Write a simple receipt

After payment, give the buyer a short receipt. It protects you if there is a dispute later. See what to give the buyer.
