How to Sell an Expensive Phone Safely: iPhone Pro Max, Galaxy Ultra and Foldables

When your phone is worth as much as a motorbike, you need to be extra careful. Expensive phones attract serious buyers, but also scammers and thieves. Follow these steps to sell safely.

Screen buyers before meeting

Talk on a call first. A real buyer will happily talk. Scammers prefer text only.
Ask a few questions. Which colour do they want? Where are they? When can they meet? Vague answers are a warning sign.
Be careful with buyers who agree instantly without asking anything, or offer more than your price.

Meet in the right place

A bank branch is ideal for expensive phones. There are guards and cameras, and the buyer can withdraw or deposit cash on the spot.
A busy mall with security is a good second choice.

Bring a friend or family member.
Never meet at a buyer's home or a quiet place, and do not invite strangers to your house.

Payment for large amounts

Bank transfer or Raast, checked in your own banking app, is safest for big amounts.
Cash should be counted and checked, ideally at the bank so it can be deposited and verified at once.
Never accept a screenshot, a cheque or a promise.

Keep control of the phone

Let the buyer check the phone, but stay next to them.
Do not let them walk away with it "to show a friend" or "to test the signal outside".

Prove your phone is genuine

Expensive phones have a big market for fakes and replicas, so honest buyers are careful too. Help them:

Show the box with matching IMEI.
Show the PTA check result from 8484.
Show the purchase bill or warranty card.

Foldables need extra checks
